Whitney Houston: "I Felt Kind of Lost"

Whitney Houstonby Marc Malkin, eonline
Los Angeles (E! Online) – Whitney Houston's comeback album drops in just six weeks.
And it was the superstar diva herself who best summed up the excitement for her return when she took center stage at last night's VIP-only album listening party in Beverly Hills.
"I'm back home," she said. "I'm back home where I belong."
Among the VIP guests packed into a ballroom at the Beverly Hilton hotel to hear nine songs from I Look to You were Halle Berry, Stevie Wonder, Magic Johnson, Barry Manilow, Penny Marshall, model Beverly Johnson and a slew of music industry heavyweights.
Who was the Hollywood legend Houston met for the first time at the soiree? And how was Houston looking and sounding? Read on to find out.
Sitting in a front row seat was Jane Fonda, who attended with her music producer boyfriend Richard Perry.
"When they told me you were here tonight, I almost croaked," Houston said to the Oscar winner after the two embraced. "I was like, 'Jane Fonda is at my listening party? How cool am I?'"
Sony music honcho and Houston's mentor since he discovered her oh-so-many years ago Clive Davis hosted the evening. And Ms. Whitney looked fantastically fabulous last night (she kept it simple with a short black dress, killer heels and little makeup).
The music was true Houston. Among the songs Davis introduced and played for the crowd were the Alicia Keys-written "Million Dollar Bill," the up-tempo "Nothing But Love," the ballad "I Didn't Know My Own Strength," the island song duet with Akon "Like I Never Left," and the title track, one of two collaborations with R. Kelly.
The album took about three and a half years. "For the years we were apart, I felt kind of lost," Houston said to Davis, referring to her troubled past. "But I'm home where I truly belong, don't ya think?"
The audience went wild.
Pointing to Bobbi Kristina, her daughter with ex-husband Bobby Brown, Houston smiled, "There's my baby, my inspiration. Mama loves you so much."
Looking out to Berry, Houston cooed, "How's the baby?"
"Fantastic," Berry said.
And we have a feeling Houston's fans will be saying the same and a whole lot more when I Look to You drops on Sept. 1.

Bono and U2 hits new high record in Dublin

DUBLIN – Bono and U2 rocked more than 80,000 fans in Dublin as the Irish supergroup's latest world tour hit new emotional highs Friday night on home soil.
A deafening roar welcomed the Dubliners as they launched their three-concert homestand at Croke Park, Ireland's biggest stadium and a cathedral to Irish nationalism. The band's "360" tour — featuring its underselling 12th studio album, "No Line on the Horizon" — switches from Europe to North America in September.
Crowds braced for downpours threw their raincoats aside as an unexpected sunset gave way to a starry Dublin night.
All of the "360" concerts feature a stunning feat of engineering: the four-taloned "Claw" stage. The 390-ton, green cabana stands more than 10 stories above the band as they strut through the crowds on moving bridges and a ring-shaped stage with concertgoers inside and out.
The U2 touring juggernaut deploys three "Claws" — each costing €100 million ($140 million) and capable of holding up more than 150 tons of lighting, pyrotechnics and giant TV screens — that are continually being assembled and disassembled in different concert locations.
Before taking the stage, Bono joked that the band's performances in Barcelona, Milan, Paris, Nice, Berlin and Amsterdam were just "rehearsals" for the Dublin concerts.
The U2 gigs are delivering an estimated €50 million ($70 million) boost to Ireland's recession-ravaged economy, with most Dublin hotels booked solid for weeks. Even the Dublin Criminal Court shut down jury deliberations for the weekend because too many jurors had U2 tickets.
And in front of a crowd waving flags from as far away as Brazil and Japan, Bono said tens of thousands had traveled worldwide to Dublin. "You know the best place to see U2 live is right here," he said to cheers.
Nonetheless, Ireland's descent into double-digit unemployment could be seen in the stands. Several thousand seats remained empty — the first non-sellout of a U2 gig in Dublin since 1980.
Hill 16 was built on rubble from Ireland's first, failed rebellion against British rule in 1916. Ireland won independence six years later, but not before British security forces made Hill 16 the most infamous killing ground of the conflict, shooting to death a dozen spectators and athletes at a Gaelic football match.
"We're undefeatable!" Bono shouted. "Hill 16 right behind us. Out of the rubble of a revolution in 1916 they built a beautiful stadium, and more importantly they built a great country. And there is nothing we can't do if we believe in ourselves."
High school students Paul "Bono" Hewson, guitarist Dave "The Edge" Evans, drummer Larry Mullen and bassist Adam Clayton came together to form U2 in Dublin 33 years ago.

"Potter" prepared to fend off trio of newcomers

By Carl DiOrio, reuters
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" is on course to be crowned king of the domestic box office again this weekend.
With $200 million in its cauldron at the start of just its second weekend, Warner Bros.' "Prince" could fall 60 percent from its first-frame tally and still produce a $31 million sophomore session. Bolstering the film's prospects is its expansion from four high-grossing Imax venues to 162.
Although three films opening in wide release Friday are expected to do solid business, none is likely to compete for the weekend title.
Sony's romantic comedy "The Ugly Truth," helmed by Robert Luketic ("21") and starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler, might be the strongest of the new pictures, with prerelease tracking surveys showing prospects for an opening north of $20 million.
Produced for less than $40 million, "Truth" carries an R rating but is likely to draw best among older females, who executives hope will rope in a few guys for a date-night outing. Sony offered 160 sneak previews of "Truth" last weekend and attracted 90 percent capacity audiences.
Meanwhile, Disney's Jerry Bruckheimer-produced family action-comedy "G-Force," featuring a mix of CGI and live action, also is looking good amid signs that its hefty marketing campaign is taking hold.
Helmed by effects supervisor-turned-director Hoyt Yeatman, "G-Force" also could top $20 million this weekend. Premium ticket prices in more than 1,600 3D auditoriums will help the cause. The studio's May release of Pixar's "Up" boasted 1,540 3D locations.
But there's little doubt the still-strong interest in the Potter pic will affect "G-Force," which carries the same PG rating. The question is whether the impact will be minimum or severe. "Prince" and "G-Force" target a similar audience, but the latter plays much younger.
Set for 3,693 playdates, "G-Force" totes a negative cost of $80 million-plus.
Warners' R-rated horror film "Orphan" should do midteen millions this weekend, with solid interest evident among younger moviegoers. The story of a demon-seed orphan on a tear is female-oriented, but the question remains whether young female moviegoers will be turned off by the restricted rating. "Orphan" was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra ("Goal II: Living the Dream").

"We start filming the after that 'Batman' after that day, which method it won't draw closer prohibited intended for a different two years," he supposed, rather than adding up in a cunning tone, "but you didn't hear with the purpose of from me."
No details of a third Nolan "Batman" flick come up with increasingly been announced and a Warner Bros. Presenter declined to comment, which barely added mystery to intrigue. Still, it doesn't take money-hungry Batman archenemy The Joker to cost prohibited with the purpose of Warner Bros., which makes and releases the Batman flicks, would be thinking something like a pristine individual. After all, the primarily two movies combined took in near $1.4 billion on worldwide box offices.

Downey told a crowd on the convention of comic sign up fans and motion picture lovers with the purpose of Holmes "was probably the primarily superhero. He was an intellectual superhero."
Despite the numerous film and television adaptations with the purpose of come up with draw closer rather than, Downey believes in attendance is scope intended for this pristine version directed by male Ritchie and regular intended for a Christmas first appearance.
"I think the more we all looked into the primary lexicon of the four novels and dozens of brusque stories, in a way he had been misrepresented in a fortune of the earlier filmed and television entertainment versions," supposed Downey. "Some of it was constraint on period as he was liberal and hippie, and in attendance were too resources issues."
Downey supposed all epoch the team behind this pristine film was in doubt something like a direction, they would return to pardon? Doyle originally wrote or supposed something like the lettering.
"We reinvigorated (the film) by changing take away than had been distorted rather than," he supposed. While the pristine motion picture explores Holmes' earth from the books, the definite narrative comes from a graphic novel with the purpose of producer Lionel Wigman bent to reboot the permission in Hollywood.
Downey's Holmes will match mind with the wicked lady Blackwood, and the film will deal with the occult -- a trendy focus in the Victorian era in which the motion picture is regular.

Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince - Stars Get Over Kissing Qualms

Harry Potterby Eric Ditzian, mtvnews
Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and Bonnie Wright had a hard time with romantic scenes.
Back at the turn of the millennium, they were just a bunch of kids — some with a bit of professional acting experience, most completely raw — that were fortunate and talented enough to be cast in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." The film conjured up almost $1 billion at the worldwide box office, and as "Potter" movie after "Potter" movie went into production over the years, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and the rest of the core cast essentially grew up together.
Almost a decade after their first witch-and-wizard adventure, the child actors have morphed into young adults — and the story lines have matured along with them. "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" (in theaters July 15), the sixth film in the franchise, presents all manner of love triangles, broken hearts and blossoming relationships. The difficult trick for the cast, though, was jumping lips-first into these romantic scenes with co-stars who had become like family.

Johnny Depp Open To Being The Riddler In A New Batman Film

by Eric Ditzian, mtvnews
When MTV News caught up with the actor while he was promoting his upcoming Michael Mann film "Public Enemies," Depp told us he's open to taking on the role of the puzzle-hurling villain.
"If the opportunity came, I'd definitely juggle it," he said.
Depp professed to being a fan of both the character and the actor who played the bad guy in the '60s-era TV show. "I always liked the Riddler," Depp said. "I always liked Frank Gorshin. Frank Gorshin was brilliant. I always thought he was a great actor."
Bale, who co-stars with Depp in "Enemies," believes Johnny would be an excellent fit for the role — if "Batman 3" actually goes into production. "I think he's a wonderful actor, and I think he could achieve that greatly, but I'm not the man to ask," Bale said, maintaining that the decision will rest with Nolan.
While on the "Enemies" set, did the two actors ever discuss the possibility of going head-to-head in Gotham City? "No. As you see in the movie, we had one scene together, so not a whole lot of time for discussing anything else," Bale said.
Of course, Riddler guesswork doesn't only surround Depp. Talk of Eddie Murphy becoming the green-suited baddie has cropped up on fan sites too. The comedian recently appeared on the "Tonight Show" and told Conan O'Brien, "I would love to be in one of those Batman movies."

Transformers Sequel Hits $300 Million

by Josh Grossberg, eonline
It may suck the big robot when it comes to the reviews, but the Transformers sequel is also sucking in some serious bank.
After 14 days in theaters, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has hit the $300 million mark in U.S. ticket sales—second only to last summer's The Dark Knight, which went on to become the second-biggest grossing film of all time behind 1997's Titanic.
By way of comparison, 2007's original Autobots-vs.-Decepticons battle raked in $319.2 million during its entire domestic theatrical run, and $700 million worldwide.
Since its June 24 release, the very noisy Revenge of the Fallen, starring Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox, has grossed $600 million internationally, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com. About 8 percent of the total comes from Imax screenings.
Guess you could say demolition-happy director Michael Bay has really gotten a buck for his bang.
